Mobile Back Glass Replacement You Can Count On

Your rear window keeps your cargo secure, gives you a clear view behind you, and carries the defroster grid that clears fog on cold mornings. When it breaks, you need back glass replacement done right, not just a sheet of plastic. Cano's Auto Glass replaces rear windows on-site in driveways, garages, parking lots, and work yards.

Back glass is usually tempered, so when it fails it often bursts into thousands of small pieces. We handle the cleanup as carefully as the install.

Common Causes of a Broken Rear Window

  • Rocks or debris thrown by other vehicles or yard equipment.
  • Break-ins and vandalism.
  • A hatch or tailgate closed too hard, or something shifting in the cargo area.
  • Tools or materials sliding forward in a truck bed.
  • Falling branches or objects while parked.
  • Stress from heat, especially if the glass already had a chip at the edge.

Some of these breaks happen all at once with a loud pop, even while the car is parked. That usually means the tempered glass was already weakened by an edge chip or stress. Either way, the fix is the same: a new rear window, installed and sealed correctly.

Before we arrive

Cover the opening with plastic sheeting and tape, keep the vehicle in a garage if you can, and avoid opening the hatch or trunk so loose glass doesn't fall further into the car. Avoid freeway driving with a shattered rear window if at all possible.

Plastic over a rear window is a short-term fix. It flaps at speed, blocks your view, and does nothing to stop a thief. It also lets dust and moisture into the cabin, which can stain headliners and seats. The sooner the new glass is in, the better.

Our Back Glass Replacement Process

  1. Identify the right glass. We look up your back glass by VIN and match features such as defroster grid, built-in antenna, rear wiper, privacy tint, or a sliding window on pickups.
  2. Protect the interior. Seats and cargo areas are covered before we start.
  3. Remove the broken glass. We clear every fragment from the frame and vacuum the seats, floor, trunk or cargo area, and trim.
  4. Prep the frame. Old adhesive is trimmed and the frame is cleaned and primed.
  5. Install the new glass. OEM-quality glass is set with industry-best urethane adhesives or the factory mounting method your vehicle uses.
  6. Reconnect and test. Defroster and antenna terminals are reconnected and checked.
  7. Final cleanup. We clean the glass and give you the safe drive-away time, typically about an hour depending on the urethane and weather.

Rear Windows for Sedans, SUVs, Trucks, and More

We replace back glass on sedans and coupes, hatchbacks and SUV liftgates, minivans, pickup trucks with fixed or sliding rear windows, and commercial vehicles including box trucks, semi trucks, and crane cabs. Luxury and sports cars get the same careful prep and fit. If your side windows were also damaged, we can handle door glass replacement in the same visit.

Why the right part matters

Two rear windows for the same model can look identical and still differ in the defroster layout, antenna connection, tint level, or mounting hardware. Ordering by VIN helps make sure your defroster works, your radio reception stays clear, and the glass sits flush in the opening. For many SUVs and hatchbacks, the rear wiper mount is also part of the glass, so it has to match exactly.

We photographed one of our recent jobs right in a customer's home garage, which is a great example of how a back glass replacement can happen without the car ever leaving the property.

Back Glass Replacement Cost and Insurance

Cost depends on your vehicle and on features like the defroster grid, antenna, tint, and sliding panels. Rear window damage is usually covered under comprehensive coverage, and deductibles vary by policy. We help you with the claim and can work with your insurance company. California law generally lets you choose your repair shop. Read our guide to auto glass claims in California, visit our insurance claims page, or request a quote.
